OMG! Preorder My Book!
The big day is here. Plus: some sweeteners in case you need a little push.
I am so excited and also terror-stricken to let you know that my book — yes, The Book, The Thing that this has all been about — is available for preorder. Also, we have a title! It’s called:
Discredited: The UNC Scandal and College Athletics' Amateur Ideal
My palms just got sweaty.
Before I nervous-write anything else, just let me say: Please preorder my book. You’ve been loyally following along — most of you for years — and now is the time I get to give you something back. I really want you, yes you, to preorder this book.
Here’s three ways to do it:
Option 1: Buy it through my publisher, the University of Michigan Press.
Option 2: Call up your favorite local bookstore and ask them to preorder it for you. You can find all the identifying info you need in the hyperlinks above and below this.
Option 3: Buy it on Amazon.
(I know options 1 and 3 show different release dates; the bottom line is there is no firm release date yet, but your book will come as soon as the book’s released.)
Preorders are very, very important for the success of this book. You subscribe to this newsletter, so you know that this has been shoestring labor of love. I didn't get an advance. I had to take unpaid leave from my job. So I'm really hoping that people turn out to be interested in what I wrote. The best way to demonstrate that kind of interest is through preorders!
So please preorder my book and pass along these links and some encouragement to anyone you know who might be interested!
…
What is that I sense?
Is it…
Reluctance?
Yes, I know there are some of you out there who aren’t sold. You’re thinking, well, I’ve been on this email but I don’t really know if I can commit to a book. Or you’re thinking, I signed up for this newsletter because I’m friends with Andy’s dad and felt obligated. Or maybe you just don’t want to walk across the room to get your wallet right now. I totally get it.
Which is why I’m throwing in a couple sweeteners. (Please read to the end of this newsletter, tl;dr: you need to forward me the confirmation email you get after you preorder the book.)
Every single person who preorders my book *today* will get something special directly from me. What sort of thing, you ask. Well. I don’t know yet. It might be a handwritten card, it might be a little pen with the book title on it, it might be something much better that I haven’t thought of yet. But it will be something.
Still not convinced? I know just the thing.
Every year, I put together what is, next to this book, my longest-running and most-beloved personal project: The Controversy Bracket™. I take the men’s basketball March Madness bracket and I fill it out according to what college had the more scandal-ridden previous year. Here’s the proof: 2018. 2019. 2020. (Yes, with no bracket last year I had to seed my own 32-team bracket, which was honestly better.)
This year, I’m taking it up a notch. Anyone who preorders my book anytime between now and Monday, March 15, will receive an expanded, 64-team, Controversy Bracket™, complete with round-by-round analysis and special features. It’ll be quite lengthy but also incredibly fun, especially if you’re the type of person who likes to read about scandal. (You! Me!)
IMPORTANT: To be eligible for these extras, you must forward me the confirmation email you get after you preorder the book. (If you preorder through a local store, just shoot me a quick email saying as much.) My email address is andythomason13@gmail.com.
So many of you have been such important sources of strength for me throughout this process, so it means a lot to me that I have something to give back to you. You'll hear me say it again, but thank you so much.
Now do it! Preorder!
— Andy
